j. Siguru Wahutu is Assistant Professor of Sociology and African Studies at Yale University, where he is also a Fellow of the MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies.
He is additionally a Fellow at Harvard University’s Center for the Study of African Societies and Economies and a Faculty Associate at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society. His research examines the production and circulation of knowledge in and about Africa, with particular attention to journalism, media, genocide, mass violence, ethnicity, human rights, and postcolonial politics. He is the author of the multi-award-winning book In the Shadow of the Global North: Journalism in Postcolonial Africa (Cambridge University Press), which explores African journalists’ coverage of the Darfur conflict and broader questions of knowledge production in postcolonial Africa. His current research focuses on data privacy, digital governance, and media manipulation in African contexts and forms the basis of a second book project.
