Johanna Wild is an open source researcher at the intersection of investigative journalism and public interest technology.
She is the Innovation Lead at Bellingcat, an investigative nonprofit specialized in researching international conflicts, human rights violations, extremist movements and a wide range of other topics based on freely available online sources. Among other topics, her work centers on how AI is reshaping open source investigations methods and tools. Johanna was a 2024 Nieman-Berkman Klein Fellow in Journalism Innovation with a focus on how open source research tools can be collaboratively built, maintained and made accessible to a diverse global researcher community. She is an Affiliate at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society where she leads the Open Source Investigations working group together with BKC Faculty Associate Tomás Dodds.
